Privacy
The short version
- There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no forms and no newsletter. Nothing is asked of you.
- Crash Core stores nothing in your browser — no cookies of its own, no local storage.
- No advertising is served on this site at present. If that changes, this page changes with it.
- Videos only contact YouTube once you click play.
Who runs this site
Crash Core is an independent publication operated from Ontario, Canada. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or any vehicle manufacturer.
What this site collects directly
Nothing. Crash Core has no accounts, no comment system, no contact form and no mailing list. There is no database and no server-side code — every page is a static file. The site sets no cookies of its own and writes nothing to your browser's local storage.
What the hosting provider records
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data — including IP addresses — in order to serve pages and protect against abuse. This is standard server logging, it happens before any page reaches you, and Crash Core has no access to it beyond aggregate figures. Cloudflare's handling of that data is covered by its own privacy policy.
Analytics
No analytics service is currently running on this site. If one is added it will be a cookieless one, and this section will say so.
Advertising
No advertising is served on this site at present. If and when it is, this section will name the ad network, explain what it collects, and link to the opt-outs — before the first ad appears.
Embedded video
Articles embed videos from YouTube. Those embeds load as a still image, and no request is made to YouTube until you click play. Once you do, YouTube receives your request and its own privacy policy applies. The embeds use YouTube's no-cookie domain, which limits what is stored, but it does not make the connection private — if you would rather not contact YouTube at all, simply do not press play.
Links to other sites
Articles link to the IIHS and other sources. Crash Core is not responsible for what those sites collect or how they behave.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of personal information held about you, and to object to it being processed. Since Crash Core itself holds no personal information about readers, there is usually nothing for it to hand over or delete — requests of that kind are better directed at Google or Cloudflare, who are the parties actually processing data here.
If you are in the EEA or the UK and see advertising on this site, consent for advertising cookies is collected before those cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw it at any time. If you are in California, note that Crash Core does not sell personal information; personalised advertising can be switched off using the links above.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it. The page is generated from the site's own configuration, so it reflects the services actually running rather than a description written once and left behind.
